#BitesFights Champion!
She’s paid her dues -
Time after time -
She’s done her sentence
But committed no crime -
And bad mistakes
She’s made a few
She’s had her share of sand kicked in her face -
But she’s come through
She is the champion – my friends…

I knew she would win!!! Go JR Ward!! Great author and great books!!
Going into the Fights I figured that it would either be the Warden or Karen Marie Moning who would win, just based upon their rabid fans, lol.
Contests like this often end up be more about the popularity of the authors involved and less about the merits of each individual book. When you start with such a large field (64 books) I don’t think that it’s possible to find a single reader who has read each title in question so voters are forced to rely on an author’s reputation or their opinion of the author’s previous books that they may have read. I wish that I had thought of this when I was setting the contest up, but I wanted to represent as many authors as I could.
Next year I will probably narrow the starting field by half. I still want to present the work of as many authors as possible but I’d really like to see the books advance based upon their own merit and not necessarily the author’s reputation alone. I am not saying that Lover Unleashed won just because it was written by J.R. Ward – this is not a swipe at either the book or the author at all – I am simply thinking out loud about ways to improve the contest for next year. I’m not even sure that there is a valid way to make sure that the focus of such a contest remain on the individual books vs the authors, short of providing every participant a copy of each book in the contest to read prior to voting and that simply isn’t financially feasible, lol.
If any of you have ideas or suggestions for how I can improve the Bites Fights for next year (other than not dragging it out so long, lol) please share them with me. I’m always open to new ideas!
