You Should Have a Bookbagz!

My MiniMe and I went to Kempenfest today, as we do every August long weekend. It is an annual festival featuring artisans, antiques, music, live entertainment and more on the shores of Lake Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario.

To be honest, I was intending to skip the festival this year as it literally attracts 1000′s of people, making it difficult to really see all of the vendors and their wares. Not to mention the fact that I really hate large crowds. However my ex suggested that I take our daughter since it’s a tradition for us. Him I could ignore, but then I got a message on Facebook from my friend Hope, suggesting that I check out a vendor who makes purses and clutches inspired by classic books. Witch. She knows my weaknesses…

So off we went, braving the crowd, in search of treasure. And treasure we found. It took a lot of walking but we finally found the Bookbagz booth, just as they were closing up for the day.  The vendor/artist (unfortunately I didn’t get her name) was kind enough to halt the packing of her booth to let us browse and quite patient when I had a difficult time choosing between several designs (Around the World in 80 Days, The Scarlet Letter, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Dracula to name just a few). I finally had to let my wardrobe be the deciding factor and chose this awesome design -

Gulliver's Travels Bookbagz

Orange, green, and yellow are my favourite colours and I simply couldn’t resist the gorgeous beaded handle. It was the only one like it and I just had to have it, even though I could have chosen the same design with a more practical leather cross-body length strap.

MiniMe and I have a small collection of vintage books and she loves the housekeeping and etiquette titles that we have from the 30′s and 40′s so when she spotted this design she had to have it. The title is “Home Economics: A Housekeeping Guide for the Modern Bride”.

Home Economics Bookbagz

Although the purses resemble actual books they are wooden so they are quite sturdy. I believe that the artist has purchased the artwork so there is no copyright infringement taking place. The purses & clutches are made here in Canada but she does ship all over North America and will provide quotes for overseas shipping upon request.

Dark-Hunter Soundtrack

Anyone who has followed Paranormal Bites for a while already knows that Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favourite authors and I absolutely adore her Dark-Hunter series. I love Sherri’s characters so much that I posted a Dark-Hunter, Dream-Hunter, Were-Hunter Character Gallery back in 2009 when this site first went live. Sherrilyn may have different images in her head but the gallery represents how I envision several of the characters.

Sherrilyn’s brother Steven Warchild happens to be a musician and he has paid his own tribute to several of Sherri’s characters by writing a soundtrack to the series. Those of you who will be attending the 24th Annual Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fan Club’s Ball (Wolf Gift Ball) in New Orleans on October 26th are going to be able to see Steven perform several songs from the soundtrack, as he will be accompanying the ball’s Special Guest, Sherrilyn.

If you aren’t lucky enough to kick up your heels in NOLA this Halloween you can still check out Warchild on youtube and order a copy of the Dark-Hunter Soundtrack on
