Reading Lists
I love the fact that so many PR authors write series. When you find characters that you love and a new world to fall into there is nothing better than a series of novels that lets you get to know the characters as individuals and witness their development over time. They become so real to you that you become emotionally invested their lives and they become friends of sorts.
It’s this magical connection between reader and characters that transforms an author from someone who wrote a book that you’ve read once into someone who you support and invest in as a person. You support their careers by buying their books, attending their signings, attending conferences that they are appearing at and telling your friends about them. You support their sense of self by reading and participating on their blogs, signing up for their newsletters, joining their fan clubs, and joining their social network pages. As you interact in these ways the relationship between reading and author becomes reciprocal and you feed off of each other’s energy. The relationship is symbiotic – and that’s a good thing!
As you can tell by the lists below, I am emotionally invested in a few authors. I haven’t met them all in person – yet – but I sure as heck support their careers! And they in turn stimulate my imagination, help me work through some emotional issues that I have/had, foster my love of reading, and provide a refuge when I need to pull away from reality for awhile. Their worlds all combine in my head to form my “Happy Place” and I am content to while away my time there.
