My daughter and I went to see WARM BODIES tonight and absolutely loved it – such a cute movie! During the previews they played the trailer for CITY OF BONES and now I can’t wait to see it when it comes out in August. The visuals look really good and the casting, well, can you say “eye candy”? Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers… Damn!
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
The year got off to a slow start where new releases are concerned but it’s picking up in the later half of the month. Thank goodness too – it’s freezing outside and that equals reading weather in my book!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I got caught up in life these past few months (moving, returning to school full time, etc.) and Paranormal Bites suffered as a result. One of the things that got away from me was the weekly listing of new releases. I keep a perpetual spreadsheet but I neglected to actually post the releases so now I’m making up for it by posting all of the books that were scheduled for release this summer that I am aware of. I have not verified each release date as the list is extremely long but I believe that it is fairly accurate.
I know that May is technically still spring but it is where I left off on my regular posts so I’m starting there.

David Levithan at Scholastic has acquired a five-book middle grade fantasy series by bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare, which is the first full-length collaboration between the two bestselling authors.
In the series, 12-year-old Callum Hunt knows three rules by heart – Never trust a magician. Never pass a test a magician gives you. And never let a magician take you to the Magisterium. He’s about to break all the rules.
The first book, The Iron Trial, is scheduled for release in 2014. German film company Constantin Film has bought movie rights.

You are cordially invited to the Midnight Book Launch Party for Cassandra Clare and Holly Black on Monday, April 4. Please note that in the spirit of the party, pajamas are optional, and there will be a prize for the cutest nightwear, as well as for some thematic trivia games.
Cassandra Clare’s City of Fallen Angels is the fourth in her Mortal Instruments series, and promises “Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge.” Readers should note that in addition to tying into that series, characters from Clockwork Angel, the first novel in the Infernal Devices trilogy, make an appearance.
Holly Black’s Red Glove finds Cassel Sharpe still coming to terms with both his criminal family heritage and his ability to work curses of transformation on people and objects – an ability that makes him desirable to powerful agents on both sides of the law.
While Mysterious Galaxy’s party will begin at 10:00 PM on Monday, April 4, please note that Holly and Cassandra’s new books will be strictly held until their on-sale date of Tuesday, April 5, starting at 12:01 AM. Arrangements can be made for those who can’t stay past Midnight. See below for how to RSVP to be eligible for awesome prizes.
Please let S&S know that you’re going (just include your name. And the names of anyone coming with you so they can make a list of names). You don’t need to RSVP in order to attend; you can just show up. HOWEVER, if you do RSVP, you get entered in a drawing to win a prize: two limited-edition short stories – one by Cassandra, one by Holly, signed; the letter from Jace to Clary, signed; a piece of jewelry expressly designed by Hebelmet for City of Fallen Angels, a hand-designed stele and other goodies, all in a gangster-style briefcase that can be handcuffed to your wrist for maximum security.
PLEASE don’t RSVP unless you’re attending. You have to actually *be present at the event* to win the prize. They will have two names of winners and a list of backup names and just keep going down the list until we get to someone who is actually present to win the prize. You can’t win if you don’t show up, so be nice and don’t RSVP unless you’re actually going to be there!
